iconic portrait

This is my photography work from my vogue project. For this task I had to recreate an iconic portrait. I chose to recreate a photo of Marilyn Monroe where she is smoking a cigarette and the photo is in black and white with a yellow wash whilst her lips were still red.
To recreate this iconic portrait I planned out what I was going to need and what I was going to do. When taking my photo I asked my model to dress and wear makeup as close to the original image as possible. I then sat my model in front of a grey backdrop and positioned her in the same position Marilyn Monroe was in the original photo. The I positioned my lighting so it looked similar to the lighting in original photo, looking closely at highlights and shadows.. Finally I took my photos by crouching to my models eye level, whilst holding my camera portrait and working using 100 ISO, F8 aperture and 1/500 shutter speed.

After I took a series of photos I edited the best photo on photoshop to give it the same effects the original had and to add smoke onto the cigarette. I used the spot heal tool to remove wispy bits of hair and any blemishes to make the skin clear. Then using the dodge tool I highlighted areas of the portrait to make it look more defined. I then did a few more minor edits and moved onto adding the smoke. After adding the smoke I added a greyscale over the top of the photo and edited the lips to make them red, by using the paint tool. The whole editing process took around 2 hours to complete and the results were worth it.
